How to set up IPTV on a Firestick in the UK
The Amazon Firestick is the most common IPTV device in British living rooms: it is cheap, it plugs into any HDMI port and it runs every major player app. Because the best players are not in the Amazon Appstore, you install them with a free app called Downloader. Here is the whole process, start to finish.
Before you start
- A Firestick, Fire TV Stick 4K or Fire TV Cube, updated to the latest software.
- Your login details from your activation message: username, password and server URL.
- About ten minutes.
1. Install Downloader
From the Fire TV home screen select Find → Search, type Downloader and install the orange app published by AFTVnews.
2. Allow apps from unknown sources
Go to Settings → My Fire TV → Developer options → Install unknown apps and switch Downloader to ON. If you cannot see Developer options, open My Fire TV → About and click on your device name seven times and a message confirms you are now a developer.
3. Download your player with a code
Open Downloader, select the address box and type the code for the player you want, then press Go:

When the download finishes choose Install, then Delete to remove the installer file and free up storage.
4. Sign in
Open your new player. In IPTV Smarters choose Login with Xtream Codes API; in TiviMate choose Add playlist → Xtream Codes. Enter the server URL, username and password exactly as sent, including any port number such as :8080, and continue. Channels, films and the programme guide load within a minute.
5. Make it yours
- Hide groups you never watch (Settings → Playlists in TiviMate) for a much shorter list.
- Add favourites by long-pressing a channel.
- Move the app to the front of your home screen: hold the Home button, choose Apps, highlight the player, press the menu button and pick Move.
Keep the Firestick running smoothly
Firesticks have limited storage and memory. Clear the cache of apps you no longer use, restart the stick once a week by holding Select + Play for five seconds, and use the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band or an Ethernet adapter if you can. If you see buffering, our buffering fixes work through the causes in order.
